ISO TS 16949

ISO/TS 16949 is in practice a global standard for quality management in the automotive industry. It reflects the demands and expectations of the quality management systems in the automotive industry and it is based on ISO 9001. The requirement for a company to obtain certification according to ISO/TS 16949 is that the company must add value to the product.

This is defined in the first part in the standard as follows:
“This Technical Specification, in conjunction with ISO 9001:2008, defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products.”
”This Technical Specification, is applicable to sites of the organization where customer-specified parts, for production and / or service, are manufactured.”
“Supporting functions, whether on-site or remote (such as design centers, corporate headquarters and distribution centers), form part of the site audit as they support the site, but cannot obtain stand-alone certification to this Technical Specification.”

In the event that you do not meet the requirements to obtain certification of a company, the buyer and supplier can agree on; that only some selected parts of the standard are applied, or that only certain products are affected.
Since EG Electronics, according to this definition, does not add value to the product through own manufacturing, we do not meet the requirements for certification according to ISO/TS 16494.

Although, we do not meet the requirements to obtain certification, we know that we add important values and are an important link between our supplier and customer in the supply chain. Therefore, we strive towards meeting as many requirements as possible and relevant for us in ISO/TS 16494. In practice this means that we extend and adapt existing, relevant and applicable procedures and routines according to the ISO/TS 16494 requirements.

One example is ensuring and securing the logistic processes. In applicable cases we will also increase our responsibility, by reviewing and revising individual products and product streams.
